WHAT IS “HUMAN LIFE” Part-13

HUMAN ACTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

What are the human actions?

Human being are the MOST  intelligent and biologically active agent, who can create and in fact does voluminous activities. Human actions and responsibilities are two sides of the same coin. As a human  we can make choice and judgement  and subsequent actions affects himself and all around us Responsibilities are attached to actions to use it wisely and effectively.

How to categories all in to a near consensus platform ? Let me discuss a few  as below.

HUMAN ACTION

Human actions are the   output of conscious choice  or the result of unconscious process  or automatic behaviors. The actions may be positive or negative or neutral  depending upon the intent and impact they have on others and environment all around. Human actions are driven by complex interplay of factors including motivations, belief, emotions and circumstances. Actions which are not guided by conscious choice are Habits, Reflexes, Emotions, Instincts.

Actions are various activities that happen for different purposes in various domain like science and technology, arts, music, mathematics, environment, natural science, transport, space and under water explorations, even looking deep into the earth surface. Human activities and behaviors are mostly affected by conscience, a powerful psychological phenomenon.

Division of actions clearly depend upon the perspective from which it is seen. Maybe it is divided broadly in to 4 categories, Economics, non-economics, leisure activities, religious and spiritual activities. Economic groups have taken preponderance over others because of its importance in maintaining livelihood. There are overlapping of the groups because of the continuity of the process. I do believe spiritual and religious groups to be given highest honor being the vehicle of peace and joy for mankind.

Human activities divided into 5 categories in different way.(Reference-7:1)

  • Primary activities – Those involves extraction of raw materials directly from earth and other natural resources like farming, fishing, mining, forestry.
  • Secondary action – Activities involves the processing of raw material into useful product such as construction, power generation and manufacturing
  • Tertiary activities – Providing services that are needed for society such as trade, tourism, transport, education, health care,
  • Quaternary – Generations, storage and dissipation of high knowledge of information, research, consultancy, internet activities, web designing, AI as well.
  • Quinary – These involves highest activities of decision making, administration and governance.

Human duties and responsibilities are the ethical obligations and moral imperatives  that individuals have towards themselves, and world around them. These duties and responsibilities encompass a wide range of actions and from respecting  the fundamental rights of others to protecting the environment  for future generations. Self defense is termed as right to use force to protect one self from any harm. It is a fundamental  human right  that is recognized in the international law. The laws varies from country to country. It is a complex issues as there is no easy answer to question as to what is considered  the humane self defense.

B-Self improvement: One’s own duty  also include developing  own physical, moral and intellectual capacities.

C-Self respect: Duty to uphold own dignity and worth.

  1. Duties to others:

Environmental stewardship: Duty to  protect and make sustain  the natural world.

Social responsibilities: Actions to contribute the well being of society.

Global citizenship: It is rather a Hindu philosophy imbibed in to modern days of ‘BASUNDHEBA KUTUMBAKAM’

Duty and Responsibility of Human is defined in a way as “Declaration of human duties and responsibilities (DHDR). Under the auspices of UNESCO, it was defined for the purpose of declaration. It was proclaimed on 8th July 1998 in Valencia, Spain. According to DHDR Article 1Duty means – Moral or Ethical Obligation

Responsibility means – An Obligation that is legally binding under existing international law.

DHDR has 12 chapters and 11 articles. (Reference-7:2) The whole of the contents is not under consideration here. Moreover, the subjects are more complex. Over all DHDR call for holistic and integrated  approach to human action and responsibilities  taking in to account the individual, social and cosmic dimension of human existences.

Setting individual duty and responsibility as separate, the collective actions of the order of global community to be aligned with international formulations. It is to be renewed from time to time and binding to all administrations, local and global to ensure the peace and justice of the planet.
